Gov Yusuf reconcile two heavyweight politicians dispute

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has intervened in the political dispute between Honourable Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, leading to a reconciliation between the two politicians.

The resolution followed a meeting convened by the governor aimed at settling differences between the influential political figures from the southern part of the state.

Speaking after the meeting, Honourable Rurum, who represents Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, confirmed that both leaders had resolved their disagreements and reunited.

He said they had agreed to forgive one another and work together in the interest of their supporters and the party.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor.

Rurum also commended Governor Yusuf for his role in restoring peace, describing the intervention as timely and significant.

Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, described the disagreement as a misunderstanding and blamed it on “the handiwork of Satan.”

“We are one family, and what united us is more than politics. We have family ties and other relationships beyond imagination. What happened was misunderstanding and we have resolved the differences,” the senator said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Kano State APC, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, urged party supporters to put the crisis behind them and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future political contests.

Doguwa praised Governor Yusuf for what he described as foresight and leadership in facilitating the reconciliation process.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo; APC Ex-Officio, Alhaji Muhammad Jamu; APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa; Senator Kawu Sumaila; and Honourable Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

The two politicians also invited their supporters to attend the affirmation of Senator Kawu Sumaila as the Kano South senatorial candidate scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
