THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 510 blocks of cannabis sativa in a major operation ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The State Commander, CN DY Lawal, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 10, 2026.
The statement was signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Sani Musa, 34, from Bebeji Local Government Area, was apprehended by NDLEA operatives in possession of the illicit substance.
The agency said the 510 compressed blocks of cannabis were recovered from the suspect’s residence.
Musa reportedly confessed that the consignment had been delivered to him by a suspected drug dealer identified as “Alaramma” for safekeeping.
He also admitted that he was authorised to sell the drugs, which were allegedly intended for distribution during the Sallah period when demand is typically high.
“Mr. Musa’s statements indicate he had full knowledge of the illicit substance and participated in the drug trade,” Lawal said, adding that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
The commander assured residents of continued enforcement operations across the state, particularly during festive periods when drug-related activities tend to increase.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NDLEA office.
Lawal also cautioned individuals against engaging in illicit drug trade, encouraging them to pursue lawful means of livelihood and celebrate responsibly.
The agency extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to residents of Kano, wishing them a peaceful and drug-free celebration.
