The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has distributed food items to journalists covering its activities in Kano as part of its annual Ramadan outreach.
The gesture, which took place on Thursday at the organisation’s Kano office, saw about 15 beneficiaries receive food items including spaghetti and sugar.
The initiative forms part of CITAD’s tradition of appreciating media professionals during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide, is a period devoted to compassion, generosity and selflessness—values the organisation says align with its principles of social responsibility and community engagement.
Speaking during the distribution, the Executive Director of CITAD, Y. Z. Ya’u, said the initiative reflects the Centre’s recognition of the media’s critical role in promoting public awareness and civic participation.
According to him, journalists remain key partners in amplifying CITAD’s advocacy efforts in digital inclusion, good governance, gender equality and youth empowerment.
“We consider the media as part of the CITAD family. They have been instrumental in communicating our programmes and shaping narratives that promote accountability, innovation and social change,” Ya’u said.
He described the food items as a token of appreciation for the journalists’ professionalism and consistency in reporting the organisation’s activities.
“This simple gesture is our way of saying thank you for helping us reach communities across Nigeria with our message of digital empowerment and civic engagement,” he added.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisation, describing the support as a commendable show of recognition.
One of the correspondents Kola Oyelere of the Nigerian Tribune noted that CITAD’s consistency in reaching out to journalists during Ramadan demonstrates genuine respect for the media’s contribution to democratic growth and public enlightenment.
