Youth development key driver of economic growth — Gov. Yusuf

KANO State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development as a central pillar for economic growth and effective governance, pledging expanded support and broader opportunities for young people across the state.
The governor made this known on Friday while receiving members of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Kano.
According to a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf described youths as critical stakeholders in sustainable development and noted that his administration is deliberately strengthening their participation in leadership and public service.
He stated that the current year would place strong emphasis on youth inclusion in governance, revealing that young people already make up about 40 percent of political appointments in the state.
These, he said, include commissioners, directors-general, managing directors, and other strategic offices.
“No development would be achieved without the full participation of youths,” the governor said, adding that the government would continue to empower them through appointments and targeted intervention programmes.
Speaking during the visit, the Special Adviser to the Governor on State Matters, Usman Bala, said the APC youth wing, led nationally by Dayo Israel, successfully held its Youth Progressive Summit in Kano without any security incident.
Bala added that the state government remains committed to youth empowerment through apprenticeship schemes, skills acquisition initiatives, and entrepreneurship support programmes designed to promote economic growth and social inclusion.
Earlier, the APC youth leader, Dayo Israel, thanked the governor for hosting and supporting the Youth Progressive Summit at the Kano Government House and commended him for encouraging youth-driven development.
He also pledged continued support for the administration’s policies and programmes.
