INEC sets February 20, 2027, for Presidential, NASS elections

Kola Oyelere, Kano —

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are slated for March 6, 2027.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the election timetable at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

The commission had previously indicated on February 4 that it had completed preparations for the electoral schedule, despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.

Prof. Amupitan noted that the timetable had already been submitted to lawmakers but cautioned that some activities could be affected depending on when the amended Electoral Act is enacted.

The commission assured Nigerians that preparations for the 2027 elections are ongoing and urged political parties and stakeholders to adhere to the set timelines.

Further details on the electoral schedule and activities are expected to be released in the coming days.
