Yuletide: NEMA launches campaign to curb toad crashes in Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday launched a sensitisation campaign aimed at reducing road traffic crashes during and after the Yuletide celebrations in Kano State.

The campaign, tagged “2025 Operation Eagle Eye,” was flagged off by the NEMA Kano Operations Office as part of efforts to promote safe road usage during the festive period marked by increased travel.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Head of Operations, NEMA Kano Office, Dr Nura Abdullahi, said the operation was designed to sensitise motorists and commuters on road safety and responsible driving.

Dr Abdullahi was represented by the Head of Search and Rescue, Mr Abdulhadi Tukur.

He explained that the exercise was aimed at complementing the efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in educating motorists and commuters on the dangers of overloading, overspeeding and reckless driving, especially during the festive season.

According to him, the campaign would help reduce road crashes by enlightening road users and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

Dr Abdullahi noted that the initiative aligns with the FRSC’s mandate to ensure safer roads across the country, particularly during the Ember Months, a period often associated with increased road travel and accidents.

He disclosed that NEMA personnel, alongside response equipment, would be deployed to strategic locations across the state to ensure prompt response to road accidents and other emergencies before, during and after the Yuletide.

“NEMA is always ready to cooperate with other critical stakeholders, particularly in disaster management, to curb the menace of road traffic crashes,” he said.

The NEMA official urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to safeguard lives, property and vehicles, while cautioning against dangerous driving habits such as reckless overtaking, overloading and the use of mobile phones while driving.

“Our aim is to record zero tolerance for road traffic crashes, especially during and after this Yuletide period,” he added.

Officials of NEMA, FRSC patrol teams and other relevant stakeholders were present at the flag-off ceremony.
