NSCDC Arrests Seven Suspected Vandals, Burglars in Kano

Kola Oyelere, Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested seven suspects for alleged vandalism of public infrastructure and burglary of shops and residential houses across the state.
The State Commandant, Mr Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Kano.
He said two of the suspects, aged 19 and 20, were arrested shortly after allegedly vandalising armoured cables worth thousands of naira at Yan Shana community in Kumbotso Local Government Area. According to him, the arrest was carried out with the support of members of a local vigilante group in the area.
Hassan-Agalama added that two other suspects, aged 19 and 25, were apprehended along Madaki Street in Rano Local Government Area for allegedly vandalising aluminium conductor cables.
The commandant further disclosed that operatives of the corps had dismantled a burglary syndicate that had been terrorising residents of Danhassan community in Kura Local Government Area.
He said three suspects, aged between 22 and 25, all residents of Danhassan, were arrested in connection with the burglary cases.
According to him, preliminary investigations and confessional statements revealed that no fewer than seven shops had been burgled by the suspects, with various valuables carted away.
Hassan-Agalama stated that all the suspects were cooperating with investigators and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
