The wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has extended festive support to hundreds of women across diverse social, religious, ethnic, and professional groups as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas celebrations.
At the distribution ceremony held at Government House, Gusau, beneficiaries drawn from Christian organisations, ethnic associations, security formations, civil servants, and community groups received welfare packages aimed at easing economic hardship during the festive period.
Items distributed included bags of rice, cash support, pasta, sugar, cooking oil and other essentials meant to help families celebrate Christmas with ease and dignity.
Representatives of some beneficiary groups — including Mrs Martila Udowella of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lolo Ugueze Theresa Obijiaku, wife of the HRH Chief of the Igbo Community in Gusau, and Mrs Esther Ariyo of the Yoruba Women Community — expressed gratitude to the governor’s wife for the gesture.
The beneficiaries were selected from a wide spectrum of groups, among them CAN, the Igbo and Yoruba communities, Gidan Zala women, non-indigenes, the Nigerian Army, Immigration, Customs, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, FRSC, NDLEA, Correctional Service, Red Cross, Zarota, teachers, nurses, doctors, market women, youth groups, NYSC members, scouts, fire service personnel, journalists, and bank workers.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda commended the strong support extended to Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, stating that such solidarity reinforces efforts to enhance citizens’ welfare.
She described women as pillars of peace, stability and progress, noting their central role in strengthening families and driving community development.
“The strength of Zamfara lies in the resilience and commitment of its women. They are the backbone of our society, and their contributions continue to drive the growth and progress of our state,” she said.
Hajiya Huriyya explained that the Christmas welfare initiative was designed to cushion women’s hardships and ensure they celebrate the season with comfort and dignity. She urged recipients to distribute the items fairly within their respective groups.
“I pray that this season brings peace, blessings, and prosperity to every household. May we continue to work together to build a harmonious and prosperous Zamfara State,” she added.
She further reaffirmed her commitment to promoting programmes that uplift women, support families, and foster community development, while appreciating women leaders, government officials and representatives of various organisations for their collaboration.
