Unprecedented numbers of residents of Zamfara State, cutting across political affiliations, on Wednesday trooped out in a massive show of support to welcome the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle Maradun, during his visit to Gusau, the state capital.

The crowd also unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

Matawalle, who arrived in Gusau as part of his ongoing “thank you” tour to appreciate constituents for their unwavering support to the Tinubu administration, was reportedly astonished by the unprecedented turnout. The excited crowd lined the streets, chanting praises for President Tinubu, whom they described as the “Man of the Moment.”

According to reports, the visit also featured several political engagements aimed at highlighting President Tinubu’s achievements, particularly his efforts in tackling insecurity in Zamfara. Many of the state’s major towns and villages are said to be experiencing gradual restoration of peace following security interventions.

Speaking during the event, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, Director of Finance at the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Authority and a staunch supporter of the Tinubu administration, commended Matawalle’s political commitment and grassroots connection.

He urged northern political leaders to emulate the minister’s approach.

“Since his days as governor and even after leaving office, Matawalle has never abandoned his people. He stands by them in both pain and joy,” Kwankwaso said.

He noted that Matawalle’s continuous engagement with the grassroots has strengthened the people’s confidence in President Tinubu.

“What Matawalle is doing has endeared Zamfara people to President Tinubu’s government. A vast majority are ready to re-elect him in 2027. You can see today over 3 million people trooping out to welcome this gentleman, and no one invited them.

The moment they heard of his visit, they organized their own rallies,” he added
