Gov. Yusuf flags off second batch of 1001 foreign, domestic scholarship programme

Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially flagged off the second batch of the 1001 Postgraduate Foreign and Domestic Scholarship Programme,saying is part of his administration education reform agenda
However at the occasion held at the Coronation hall of Government house,Gov.Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to education, describing it as “our first, second, and third priority.”
He recalled that the deplorable condition of the education sector when he assumed office on May 29, 2023, necessitated the State of Emergency on Education declared on June 8, 202
He then added that ” As part of the reforms, the government has constructed hundreds of new classrooms, renovated over 3,500 schools, distributed thousands of furniture and teaching materials, and recruited over 8,000 new teachers. Free school uniforms and interest-free vehicle loans have also been provided for teachers across the state.”
At the tertiary level, the governor said the administration approved ₦2 billion to support Kano indigenes studying in public universities nationwide and directed all state-owned institutions to reduce registration fees by 50% for Kano students.
To clear inherited debts, the government settled ₦500 million owed to five private universities, ₦2.4 billion to Near East University in Cyprus, and ₦55.3 million to the Digital Bridge Institute, Abuja
He recalled that the deplorable condition of the education sector when he assumed office on May 29, 2023, necessitated the State of Emergency on Education declared on June 8, 2024.
“Our schools, once symbols of hope and progress, had become shadows of themselves. We met dilapidated structures, shortage of classrooms, and demoralized teachers,” the governor lamented.
The event, was attended by scholars, parents, and government officials, marks a major milestone in the administration’s education reform agenda, aimed at restoring Kano’s reputation as a centre of learning and excellence.
