Jigawa state police command,have arrested two suspected gunrunners attempting to smuggle locally fabricated firearms into Kano State.
However,the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Abdussamad Haruna from Dansure village via Gwiwa in Kazaure town, was intercepted while attempting to transport a rifle into Kano.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, disclosed that the first arrest was made on July 8, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m., by officers of the Kazaure Divisional Police Headquarters.
He then added that”Upon his arrest, a thorough search was conducted, leading to the recovery of one locally made revolver rifle concealed in a sack,”
The statement read: Barely two weeks later, on July 20, at about 12:30 p.m., another suspect, 24-year-old Auwalu Yusuf of Kofar Wambai, Kano State, was apprehended with another locally made rifle during a similar operation.
He therefore stated that” the preliminary investigations, both suspects may be linked to a larger arms trafficking syndicate with roots in Sabon Layi, Barikin Ladi, Plateau State.
The Command noted that the
” Authorities believe the network is actively involved in supplying illegal weapons to criminal groups across Kano and Jigawa States”
The image maker of the command however disclosed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate.
