The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the prestigious “Journalists-Friendly Governor” in recognition of his unwavering support for press freedom and the welfare of journalists
However,”The award was presented as part of the activities marking the 70th anniversary of the union.
Speaking on his behalf at the occasion, the Kano State Deputy Governor comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo. highlighted several initiatives introduced by the Kano State Government to promote press freedom and ensure the welfare of journalists in the state.
According to him “These, he noted, include various empowerment programmes, improved working conditions, and a commitment to maintaining a conducive and open environment for media practice.”
The Governor emphasized that the award was not only for the him but also for the entire people of Kano State and all well-wishers who believe in freedom of information and responsible journalism.
He reassured the gathering that the Kano State Government would continue to partner with the media sector to strengthen democracy, good governance, and the free flow of information.
“This award is dedicated to the good people of Kano State and all well-wishers,” the Deputy Governor concluded .
The National President of the NUJ, comrade Alhassan Abdullahi Yahaya in his remarks, described the award as well-deserved.
He commended Governor Yusuf for his practical demonstration of support to the journalism profession, which, according to him, reflects in the government’s transparent engagement with the media and the people.
The event underscores the Jin importance of a cordial relationship between the government and the press in fostering development, transparency, and the growth of democratic values
