DG, Abba Continuity Project 2027

Leadership is not measured by the number of promises made during electioneering campaigns; it is measured by the ability to translate those promises into tangible achievements that improve the lives of the people. In Kano State, the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has demonstrated that governance can go beyond political promises to deliver meaningful development and lasting transformation.

Since assuming office as the Executive Governor of Kano State on May 29, 2023, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has pursued an ambitious development agenda across several critical sectors. His administration has placed considerable attention on infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, youth empowerment, workers’ welfare, urban renewal and other areas essential to the advancement of the state.

What makes this administration particularly remarkable is the argument that its accomplishments extend beyond the commitments made during the election campaign. In other words, the government has not limited itself to fulfilling campaign promises; it has also undertaken additional responsibilities and development initiatives in response to the growing needs and expectations of the people.

Beyond Political Promises: The Reality of Governance

In Nigeria’s political environment, making promises is relatively easy. Politicians visit communities, address supporters, present ambitious manifestos and promise a better future. Unfortunately, the challenge often begins after elections, when many of those promises are abandoned or forgotten.

This has created a serious credibility gap between political leaders and the electorate. Citizens have become increasingly sceptical because previous experiences have taught them that campaign promises do not always translate into practical achievements.

However, governance should be different. The people deserve leaders who understand that electoral victory is not the end of a political journey but the beginning of a social contract with millions of citizens.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration deserves recognition for its efforts to demonstrate that development must be continuous, visible and people-oriented.

Development That Goes Beyond Expectations

One of the strongest arguments for continuity is the importance of consolidating ongoing projects and ensuring that development initiatives are not abandoned halfway.

Across Kano State’s 44 local government areas, the expectations of citizens are enormous. People want accessible roads, functional hospitals, quality education, reliable water supply, employment opportunities, improved security and an environment that supports economic activities.

The administration’s interventions in road construction and rehabilitation, educational infrastructure, healthcare delivery, water projects and other development programmes represent important steps towards addressing these expectations.

Development should not be concentrated in the state capital alone. Every local government, community and ward deserves attention. The ultimate measure of success is how effectively government policies improve the daily experiences of ordinary citizens.

Why Continuity Matters

The question before the people of Kano is not simply whether Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has made progress. It is whether the state should sustain the development momentum, consolidate existing investments and create opportunities for even greater achievements.

Every administration requires sufficient time to implement its vision, evaluate its policies and complete long-term projects. Frequent changes in leadership can sometimes interrupt development programmes, delay projects and create unnecessary administrative setbacks.

Continuity, therefore, should not be understood as merely retaining a political leader. It should mean preserving successful policies, completing ongoing projects, strengthening institutions and improving on the achievements already recorded.

If an administration has demonstrated commitment to development, the electorate has every reason to critically examine the benefits of allowing that development agenda to continue.

What More Can Kano Achieve With Another Opportunity?

As a concerned citizen, I believe Kano State has enormous potential that is yet to be fully explored.

Our state is one of Nigeria’s most important commercial and economic centres. We have a vibrant population, hardworking entrepreneurs, agricultural opportunities, educational institutions and a strategic position in the economic development of Northern Nigeria.

With sustained leadership and improved implementation of development policies, Kano can achieve much more.

Another opportunity should be used to deepen industrial development, attract investment, expand employment opportunities, strengthen primary healthcare, improve educational standards, modernise agriculture, develop rural infrastructure and create an enabling environment for businesses.

The next phase of governance should also prioritise transparency, accountability, effective project monitoring and stronger engagement with citizens.

Continuity must come with higher expectations, greater responsibility and measurable results.

Kano Deserves Performance, Not Just Political Promises

The people of Kano must begin to evaluate political leadership beyond political affiliations, campaign slogans and personal interests.

Elections should be about the future of our communities, the welfare of our families and the development of our beloved state.

We must ask ourselves an important question: If an administration has demonstrated a willingness to go beyond its original campaign commitments, what more could it accomplish with another opportunity and a stronger mandate?

This is not an argument that everything is perfect. No administration is without challenges, and there will always be areas requiring improvement. However, recognising achievements while demanding better performance is a responsible approach to democratic participation.

Criticism should encourage improvement, not destroy development. Equally, appreciation should never prevent citizens from demanding accountability.

The 2027 Decision: Protecting the Future of Kano

As Kano approaches another important electoral cycle, the conversation should focus on development, performance, experience and the future we want for the next generation.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has an opportunity to build upon the foundation established by his administration, address existing challenges and take Kano to a higher level of development.

For me, the argument for continuity is rooted in the belief that development should not be interrupted when there is still more to accomplish.

Kano is bigger than individual political ambitions. Kano deserves leadership that delivers, leadership that listens, leadership that understands the needs of ordinary citizens and leadership that is committed to building a better future.

My position is simple: let us evaluate leadership through performance, measure governance through its impact on the people and make our political decisions based on the future of Kano State.

If campaign promises are the beginning of a leadership contract, then actual achievements and additional development initiatives are what give that contract credibility.

Abba Kabir Yusuf Beyond Campaign Promises The Journey of Development Must Continue.

KANO FIRST! DEVELOPMENT FIRST! CONTINUITY WITH GREATER RESPONSIBILITY!
