The Chief Executive Officer of WHC Solar, Clint Chan, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding access to electricity in Nigeria through reliable solar energy solutions amid persistent power supply challenges.

Chan said the company was determined to ensure that households, businesses and industries had access to electricity through solar power systems.

He stated this in Kano during a technical training programme organised by WHC Solar for solar installers.

“Nigeria is still facing electricity challenges, which is why our mission is to ensure that everyone has access to electricity, starting with Nigeria,” he said.

Chan explained that the training was designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to install solar power systems correctly and improve service delivery to customers.

He said the company organised the programme after identifying gaps in the technical knowledge of some solar installers, which could lead to errors during installation and affect the performance of solar systems.

“We noticed that some installers may not fully understand the technology, which can lead to mistakes. We organised this training to help them improve their skills and become more experienced technicians who can contribute positively to society,” he said.

The WHC Solar chief executive disclosed that nearly 300 participants attended the programme, exceeding the company’s initial target of about 250 trainees.

According to him, the training featured practical sessions on installing and configuring inverters and lithium batteries, as well as understanding how different components of solar power systems communicate with one another.

He added that participants would receive certificates upon completing the programme in recognition of the skills acquired.

Chan said WHC Solar had operated in Nigeria for more than 10 years and remained committed to supporting the growth of the country’s renewable energy sector.

“We are committed to staying in Nigeria and contributing to the growth of the solar energy sector,” he said.

He also disclosed that the company had established a service centre in Kano to provide technical support and solar power solutions for residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Also speaking, a distributor, Sani Abdulkadir, popularly known as ABDK, commended WHC Solar for organising the training, describing it as an opportunity for young Nigerians to acquire technical skills and explore employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Abdulkadir said customers experiencing problems with the company’s products could take them to the service centre for repairs, which he said could be completed within 24 hours.

He observed that the adoption of solar energy was increasing across Nigeria as households and businesses sought alternative sources of electricity amid persistent power supply challenges.

“Before, you could count the number of houses using solar energy, but the situation is changing as more people are embracing it,” he said.

Abdulkadir noted that the growing demand for solar energy presented opportunities for young Nigerians to develop technical expertise, secure employment and contribute to the country’s energy development.

He added that initiatives aimed at improving the skills of solar installers would help strengthen the sector and ensure that customers received better installation services and reliable solar power solutions.
