The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has activated emergency response procedures following an explosion on one of its gas pipelines in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The explosion occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, involving a gas pipeline belonging to NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC), a subsidiary of NNPC Limited.

The company expressed concern over reports of injuries and damage to residential buildings and businesses in the affected community.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 16, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh, said the company’s immediate priorities were to protect lives and prevent further harm.

“Our thoughts are with those affected and their families. Protecting lives and preventing further harm are our immediate priorities,” the statement said.
According to the company, NGIC has activated its emergency response procedures and isolated the affected section of the pipeline to minimise further impact.

It said investigations were ongoing to establish the cause of the explosion and determine the full extent of the damage.
