Kano Govt denies reports of Yusuf snubbing Emir Sanusi, at Hawan Nasarawa

Kola Oyelere Kano

The Kano State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf snubbed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Hawan Nasarawa ceremony at the Government House.

The government reaffirmed that there is no misunderstanding between the state government and the Kano Emirate Council, describing their relationship as cordial and based on mutual respect and commitment to peace and development.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the claims circulating on some online platforms as false and misleading.

The government explained that it is a longstanding tradition for governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period. It noted that this year’s Hawan Nasarawa coincided with an annual strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, resulting in a scheduling conflict that required the governor’s presence outside Kano.

At the time of the Hawan Nasarawa, the governor was in Lagos attending an official meeting with other governors, in line with his schedule

According to the statement, the allegation lacks any factual basis and appears to have been deliberately fabricated to misinform the public and create tension.

It added that Governor Yusuf had duly communicated his absence to the Emir and directed the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, along with other senior officials, to receive the Emir on his behalf at the Government House.

The statement further noted that the governor participated in the Eid prayer led by the Emir and attended other Sallah-related activities, including the Hawan Daushe in Gaya Emirate.

Arrangements had also been made for him to receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye and Gaya, though senior officials were later delegated due to the clash in engagements.

It urged the public to disregard the report and rely on credible sources for accurate information.
