The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers in intelligence-led operations carried out in Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.

The arrests were made on December 14, 2025, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units, following credible intelligence reports.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the first operation took place at Rahma Round in Kiru LGA, where four suspects were apprehended after the area was cordoned off on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

One of the suspects, Shafiu Ibrahim, 25, of Auchanawa Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reportedly confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and to his involvement in several cases of cattle rustling.

A TVS motorcycle was recovered from him. The remaining three suspects, the police said, are being investigated in connection with other felonious offences.

In a related operation, a joint team from the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested another suspect, Bishir Umar, 24, of Karaduwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He was arrested at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA while allegedly conducting surveillance.

Police said the suspect confessed that he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles and were armed with a rifle. However, his accomplices reportedly escaped with the motorcycles and the firearm.

The Command stated that all the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending members of the public for their cooperation, CP Bakori urged residents to continue to support the police by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities across the state.
