N200 sachets of rice hits market as bag nears N100,000

A N200 sachets of rice has hit markets in an efforts to  make rice more affordable for Nigerians,  following the surge in prices of the staple food.
However,it will be recalled some years back, a similar package, called “Uncle Ben” rice, was being sold to consumers.

As at now  a 50kg bag of local rice now costs between N78,000 to N100,000 in the country, depending on the location and brand.

Therefore, these values are higher than the average Nigerian’s monthly earnings.

With the country’s minimum wage is now set at N70,000, and many institutions, both private and public, have yet to adopt it.

It was also discovered that this
situation, among other reasons, is why eating rice has been a luxury in many Nigerian households.

Therefore,it  was further learned that an Indigenous rice-producing company, Big Bull, has started manufacturing sachets of their products to enable Nigerian populations to eat rice.

Based on the high price of rice in the country, the  company fixed the price at N200 per sachet.
