Kano begins return of school exchange students to northern states

The Kano State Ministry of Education has commenced the transportation of students participating in the National School Exchange Programme back to their respective states following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 third-term academic session.
According to a press statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, the students were assembled at Rumfa College in Kano before being dispatched to their destinations across the 19 northern states participating in the programme.
The transportation exercise was supervised by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mallam Auwal Mustapha Muhammad, alongside members of the School Exchange Programme Committee to ensure the process was conducted safely and efficiently.
The ministry said each participating state was provided with a dedicated vehicle and an official escort to accompany the students throughout the journey. The escorts were instructed to hand over every student to his or her parents or guardians upon arrival.
To support the students during the trip, the ministry also provided each participant with a refreshment allowance to cater for feeding and other minor needs while travelling.
The ministry said the exercise underscores its commitment to the welfare and safety of students as well as the successful implementation of the National School Exchange Programme, which is designed to promote national unity, cultural integration and mutual understanding among students from different parts of the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, commended members of the School Exchange Programme Committee and other officials for their dedication and professionalism in coordinating the students’ return.
He wished the students a safe journey to their respective states and expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for their continued support and cooperation with the programme.
