Strengthening oversight, service delivery: Niger Perm Sec visits VIO, ICT agency

In line with the New Niger Agenda of Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Legbo, has led the ministry’s management team on official oversight visits to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Agency.

The visits form part of the ministry’s ongoing engagement strategy aimed at strengthening accountability, improving inter-agency collaboration and enhancing service delivery in line with the administration’s development objectives.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday in Minna by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Aisha Dauda Lambata, and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary and his team were received at the Vehicle Inspection Office by the Sector Commander, Dr. Bako Muhammed, alongside other senior officers.

During the visit, Mallam Legbo inspected operational facilities and received briefings on the office’s achievements and challenges.

He stressed the importance of professionalism, efficiency and strict adherence to standards, noting that effective service delivery in road safety and vehicle regulation is critical to public safety and economic activities under the New Niger Agenda.

In his response, Dr. Muhammed described the visit as timely and motivating, reaffirming the VIO’s commitment to promoting road safety, enforcing compliance with vehicle standards and improving service delivery.

He also highlighted areas where additional government support is needed to enhance operational capacity.

The statement further revealed that the ministry’s delegation also visited the ICT Agency, where the Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, presented an overview of its mandate, key achievements and operational challenges.

Mr. Sadiq underscored the agency’s strategic role in driving digital governance, enhancing efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and supporting innovation in public service delivery.

Commending the management and staff of the ICT Agency, Mallam Legbo emphasised that efficiency, professionalism and continuous capacity building are essential to meeting the evolving technological needs of the state.

He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote digital transformation in line with Governor Bago’s vision for a modern, responsive and development-oriented Niger State.

The visits featured facility inspections, interactive engagements and discussions on practical strategies to strengthen infrastructure, improve coordination and align agency operations with the policy thrust of the New Niger Agenda.

The ministry noted that the visitations further underscore its resolve to promote effective governance through active oversight, constructive engagement and sustained institutional support for agencies under its supervision.
