The Kano state government,in it’s determination to promote self reliance,has invested over N4.5 blllion on expansion of Watari irrigation scheme ,aimed at  providing, 250,000 job opportunities for people, through farming activities

The project manager,Watari irrigation scheme, Alhaji Mohammed Tijjani Adamu,. made this known to press on Monday on a sight seeing round the ongoing project adding that over 500 hectares of land would be added to the existing irrigation lands

He further emphasised that apart of providing 250,000 job opportunities for farmers ,no fewer that ten states in the country would also directly or indirectly benefitted from the irrigation scheme which expected to be completed by ending of this year

According to him,as at now the  dam generated 700,000 cubic of water for the irrigation, however when completed by ending December of  this year,it would generated over 10 million cubic water

He also disclosed that the state government would spent a sum of N314 million on various rehabilitations  to be carried out across the affected lands , especially on the provision of access road network and other needed facilities that would assisted the farmers

He however disclosed that the state government embarked on the programme in collaboration with Agricultural Transformation Agenda ,to enhance irrigation activities in the affected communities

While commenting on whether the state government would pay compensation on 500 hectares of land , Alhaji Adamu , said no noting that the lands belong to farmers the government only assisted them by provided a condusive steps to enhance their farming activities

By this move ,the farmers output would increased,while the prices of their products would also be cheaper and thus would boosting availability of food stuff to the state in particular and the country in general

However,in a related development Comrade Adamu Aliyu when speaking with Journalists on the ongoing project at Magaga dam,stated that the state government embarked on the project to better the life of farmers,through technology use of farming activities

According to him,the technology farming which is drilling nursery farming method was to minimised sheed wastage and cut unnecessary expenses which used to occured when farming in olden ways
He emphasised that this technology farming would provided over job opportunities for over 4,000 farmers in the affected communities in a modern methods of farming
Comrade Aliyu added that it  was jointly been sponsored by the SASAKAWA ,Kano State Agricultural Development Project and Kano state government,with the aims of assisting farmers
