Yusuf hails Gwarzo’s appointment as Hausa Community Chancellor in Europe

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has congratulated Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo on his appointment as Chancellor of the Hausa Community in Europe.
Yusuf also congratulated Gwarzo, alongside the Minister of Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr Hajjo Sani; and Alhaja Mufeedah Folashade Bola Tinubu, the Iyaloja-General, who were turbaned during the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration in Paris.
Governor Yusuf, who was represented at the event by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described Gwarzo’s appointment as well deserved, considering his contributions to community service both in Europe and Nigeria.
The governor said, “Prof. Gwarzo deserves such recognition at the international stage due to his unwavering support for the promotion of Hausa language and culture over the years.”
The appointment was announced by the Emir of the Hausa Community in Europe, Alhaji Surajo Jankado, during the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration held in Paris, France.

The Hausa Community in Europe recognised Gwarzo for his contributions to the promotion of the Hausa language and culture as well as his efforts towards improving the welfare of Hausa communities in Europe and Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Emir described the appointment as a significant step towards strengthening the unity, development and cultural identity of the Hausa community across Europe.
In his acceptance speech, Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the leadership of the community for finding him worthy of the responsibility.
He pledged to work with relevant stakeholders to promote the Hausa language, culture, identity and unity among Hausa people living across European countries.
Gwarzo said the new position would provide him with an opportunity to support initiatives aimed at preserving Hausa heritage and ensuring that younger generations remained connected to their language, culture and values.
He also called for greater cooperation among Hausa communities across Europe, stressing the importance of unity, education and cultural preservation.
The International Hausa Day celebration attracted members of the Hausa community, traditional leaders, academics, cultural advocates and other stakeholders to celebrate the language, culture and heritage of the Hausa people.
