Tinubu will secure 70–80% of votes in Kano in 2027, Says Binta Spikiñ

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and senior legislative aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajiya Binta Spikin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure between 70 and 80 per cent of votes cast in Kano State in the 2027 presidential elect
Spikin , who spoke in an interview, attributed her optimism to what she described as the Tinubu administration’s achievements in infrastructure, social programmes, and other development initiatives, as well as the appointment of northerners to strategic positions.
She also dismissed the proposed opposition G-100 coalition as incapable of stopping Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
“I have heard about it, but I am very confident that our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is equal to the task. As a bona fide member of the APC, I believe the party will emerge victorious in 2027,” she said.
According to her, ongoing projects and programmes being implemented by the Federal Government across the country would further strengthen Tinubu’s electoral prospects.
“If you look at what is happening on the ground, particularly the projects being executed by the administration and their impact on the people, you will realise that the President has performed very well,” she said.
Spikin also cautioned against interpreting the distribution of federal projects through regional sentiments, arguing that Nigeria’s development should be assessed from a national perspective.
“I do not think we should continue to dwell on unnecessary sentiments about where projects are located or where individuals come from. Nigeria is one country,” she said.
Kwankwaso, Atiku and Kano Politics
Reacting to claims that the political influence of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, particularly his reported alignment with Peter Obi, could weaken Tinubu’s chances in Kano, Spiking disagreed.
“Let me tell you, that is not true. From the situation on the ground, I believe President Tinubu will secure between 70 and 80 per cent of the votes in Kano,” she said.
While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s political influence, she maintained that he could not single-handedly determine the outcome of an election in Kano.
“Kwankwaso is certainly a formidable politician, but there are other factors to consider. We have a sitting governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf. We also have Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, who is a member of the APC,” she said.
She further cited Senators Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila and Kabiru Gaya, as well as former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, as influential figures in Kano politics.
“Kwankwaso alone cannot determine the outcome of an election. A single tree cannot make a forest,” she added.
On the influence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Kano, Spiking argued that the opposition could suffer a split in votes if Kwankwaso remains in the presidential race.
“If Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were not contesting on another platform, Atiku Abubakar and his party could make significant inroads into Kano.
“However, with Kwankwaso contesting on another ticket, the votes may be divided between them. In that situation, I believe President Tinubu will still be ahead of both of them,” she said.
Yusuf’s Defection
Spikin also dismissed claims that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf betrayed his political godfather by defecting to the APC, describing the move as a strategic political decision.
“What happened when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defected to the APC was not betrayal. I see it as a political decision based on his assessment of what was best for himself and the people of Kano,” she said.
She added that the governor’s decision was guided by his assessment of what best serves his political future and the interests of the state.
On the chances of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kano, Alhaji Ibrahim Al-Amin Little, Spiking said internal challenges within the party could affect its performance.
She noted that some aggrieved members reportedly felt sidelined during the party’s primaries, which, she said, could weaken its chances at the polls.
“As far as the Kano governorship is concerned, I do not see anyone who can successfully challenge Governor Yusuf at the moment,” she said.
Spikin praised Governor Yusuf’s performance in youth empowerment and infrastructure development, stating that these initiatives would strengthen his re-election bid.
She also described the emergence of Murtala Sule Garo as deputy governor as a political advantage for the administration.
Najatu Muhammad’s Political Influence
On the political relevance of Hajiya Najatu Muhammad, Spikin said she had lost some of the influence she previously enjoyed in Kano.
“In my view, she has made several political miscalculations and, as a result, no longer commands the level of respect and political influence she once enjoyed,” she said.
APC Confident of 2027 Victory
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Spiking said the APC remained strongly positioned in Kano and across Nigeria.
“I believe the APC is in a strong position in Kano. With President Tinubu at the federal level, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the state, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and other political leaders within the party, there is a strong political structure,” she said.
She expressed confidence that the party’s performance in governance and development programmes would translate into electoral success.
“I am confident that the APC will perform strongly in Kano and across the country in 2027,” she added.
