The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving N37 billion for the ongoing Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project in the 2026 budget.

Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, gave the commendation during plenary while responding to a motion moved by Kamorudeen Olalere on the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ikire–Ife–Ilesha road in the South-West.

He noted that the administration’s road infrastructure projects are spread across different regions of the country, benefiting both ruling and opposition strongholds.

According to him, the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road, which spans about 100 kilometres, is being upgraded from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway to improve transportation and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from rural communities to markets in neighbouring states.

The Federal Government had earlier flagged off construction of the road on June 11, 2021, linking Kano State to Dayi town in Katsina State.

Jibrin also expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on other key road projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway, which he said is progressing steadily.

He further cited ongoing infrastructure developments such as the Lagos–Calabar coastal road, describing them as evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development.

“Despite global financial constraints, the President is continuing with major road projects across the country,” he said, urging other political actors to acknowledge ongoing efforts irrespective of party affiliation.

Jibrin said the National Assembly appreciates the President’s commitment to infrastructure, adding that such investments are critical to economic growth and national integration.
