Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has joined 14 other first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, expressing support for the continuation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027.
The meeting was attended by APC first-term governors from Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Ondo, Taraba, Delta, Ekiti, Kogi, Benue, Ebonyi, Edo and Plateau states.
The endorsement was announced in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the governors held in Birnin Kebbi and read by the host governor, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Kano State Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the governors unanimously backed President Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing policy continuity and strong collaboration between the Federal Government and the states as essential for sustaining ongoing reforms.
The governors acknowledged that Nigerians were facing economic hardship arising from the administration’s reform policies but appealed to citizens to remain patient, insisting that the measures were necessary to address long-standing fiscal and developmental challenges.
According to the communiqué, the reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring public finances, attracting investment, improving productivity and strengthening national security.
“The support for President Tinubu is based on the need for courageous leadership, policy continuity and stronger collaboration between the Federal and State Governments,” the communiqué stated.
The governors urged Nigerians to look beyond what they described as temporary discomfort, expressing confidence that the reforms would ultimately deliver economic recovery, shared prosperity and democratic stability.
On security, they expressed concern over persistent terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and attacks on schools across the country, pledging closer cooperation with security agencies, traditional rulers and local communities to improve the protection of lives and property.
They also condemned the abduction of children, attacks on educational institutions and other forms of criminality that threaten peace, education and economic activities.
The meeting further denounced reported attacks and hostility against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, calling on the South African authorities to ensure the safety of law-abiding residents and bring perpetrators to justice.
