KANO State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday flagged off the distribution of 150 trailers of fertiliser to farmers across the state’s 44 local government areas as part of preparations for the 2026 farming season.

Speaking during the launch ceremony in Kano, the governor said the annual fertiliser distribution was one of the key promises made during his election campaign and had been consistently implemented over the past three years.

Yusuf said the initiative was aimed at supporting farmers, boosting agricultural productivity and enhancing food security in the state.

He, however, issued a stern warning against the diversion of the fertiliser, stressing that the government would not tolerate any form of corruption in the distribution process.

“As the governor, I cannot be everywhere to ensure that the distribution of the 150 trailers of fertiliser reaches all the intended beneficiaries,” he said.

“The government will not tolerate any form of corrupt act involving the diversion of the product, and anyone found culpable will face the consequences.”

The governor urged officials handling the exercise to ensure transparency and fairness so that the fertiliser reaches genuine farmers across the state.

He also called on residents to pray for favourable weather conditions and adequate rainfall to guarantee a successful farming season and bumper harvest, noting concerns among farmers over the possibility of drought.

Governor Yusuf further appealed to the people of Kano to appreciate the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He expressed satisfaction with his administration’s performance in the agricultural sector, saying the government had fulfilled its commitment to provide fertiliser to farmers annually since assuming office.

“We have done well in the last three years and have fulfilled our campaign promises to the people as far as the distribution of fertiliser is concerned,” the governor said.
