A strong member the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Shariff Aminu Ahlan, has alleged that a coordinated campaign is being waged against the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, by individuals seeking to force his removal from office.

In a statement titled “Deadly Conspiracy to Topple Commissioner Waiya,” Ahlan claimed that the sustained criticism and attacks directed at the commissioner across various media platforms are part of a calculated effort to tarnish his reputation and undermine his position within the Kano State Government.

According to him, Waiya has become a target because of his perceived effectiveness, loyalty, and growing influence within the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Ahlan described the commissioner as one of the most visible members of the government, arguing that his performance and commitment to public service have earned him widespread recognition.

He cited Waiya’s efforts to revive and strengthen the historic Gauta Club, a forum that brings together media commentators and radio presenters, as one of his notable achievements.

According to Ahlan, the initiative helped reduce inflammatory political discourse and promoted professionalism among media practitioners in the state.

The APC supporter also praised the commissioner’s open-door policy, saying Waiya has remained accessible to journalists, political stakeholders, and ordinary citizens regardless of their political affiliations.

He further alleged that some of the individuals currently criticizing the commissioner had previously benefited from his support and goodwill, raising questions about their motives.

Ahlan claimed that certain political actors with ambitions to occupy the commissioner’s position may be sponsoring the attacks.

He alleged that these individuals have resorted to smear campaigns because they are unable to match Waiya’s achievements and influence within government circles.

According to him, Governor Yusuf’s continued confidence in the commissioner is evident in the key responsibilities and committee assignments entrusted to him
.
“The Governor’s continued reliance on Commissioner Waiya reflects the trust and confidence he enjoys within the administration,” Ahlan stated.

He argued that the campaign against the commissioner appears to be motivated more by political interests than genuine concerns about accountability.

Ahlan urged Kano residents to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts to undermine competent public servants for personal political gain.

He maintained that Waiya’s contributions to media engagement, public communication, and the implementation of the administration’s policies have left a significant mark on the state’s development efforts.

The allegations contained in the statement remain the views of the author, and no official response has been issued by those accused of sponsoring the purported campaign against the commissioner.
