Unexpected rain welcomes Gov Yusuf at Kano affirmation rally

Thousands of supporters of Abba Kabir Yusuf were thrown into excitement on Thursday as a sudden heavy rainfall greeted the governor’s arrival at the Sani Abacha Stadium during an event organised for the affirmation of his 2027 governorship bid.

The stadium, popularly known as SAS, had already been filled beyond capacity by party loyalists and supporters hours before the governor’s arrival.

Eyewitnesses said the atmosphere was initially characterised by intense heat, with many supporters struggling to cope with the high temperature that has recently affected Kano and other parts of northern Nigeria.

The heatwave in Kano has reportedly risen to about 42 degrees Celsius in recent days, prompting residents to pray for rainfall and cooler weather conditions.

However, moments after Governor Yusuf arrived at the stadium in a convoy alongside other top government officials and political associates, heavy rain unexpectedly began to fall, sending many supporters running in different directions in search of shelter.

The rainfall temporarily disrupted activities at the venue, as the governor was unable to step out of the vehicle conveying him and other dignitaries to the main arena.

Despite the downpour, many supporters were seen cheering and celebrating the development, describing the rainfall as a sign of blessing for the governor’s political future.

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Yusuf was still inside the vehicle due to the intensity of the rain.
