Suspected thugs on Monday launched an attack on a major mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano, triggering panic among traders and customers

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the market in broad daylight, assaulting people and wielding sharp weapons to intimidate victims.

The incident was reported to have occurred mainly around Yoyo Plaza, a section of the market known for phone trading activities.

Sources said the assailants also seized mobile phones and other valuables from traders, customers, and passersby in nearby areas.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that some of the attackers may have come from a political gathering allegedly held in Kano Central, although there has been no official confirmation of this claim.

Police officers were later deployed to the scene, where they dispersed the attackers and restored calm.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed information on fatalities, but several people were said to have sustained injuries.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
