2027: Ajiyan Sokoto denies plans to contest governorship election
Kola Oyelere Kano
The traditional title holder of Ajiyan Sokoto, Allaji Umar I. Ajiya, has denied the rumors making the
round in some quarters that he is planning to contest the Sokoto governorship election in 2027.
Making this known in a statement by the Spokesman to Ajiyan Sokoto, Bashir Ahmad Danmalam,a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Monday night.
” It has come to our knowledge that parts of the orchestrated plans being hatched is to circulate campaign posters with the picture of the Ajiyan Sokoto, insinuating that he’s planning to contest for the Sokoto State Governorship seat”
He added that “.This insinuation is not only baseless and false, but unfounded and therefore should be disregarded,”
“We want to make it abundantly clear that Alhaji Umar I. Ajiya did not mandate any individual or group to print out and circulate any posters on his behalf as he remains a loyal APC card carrying member who is committed to the development and sustenance of democracy in the country.”he said
However,Danmalam blamed the rumours on the handwork of some disgruntled elements whom he said do not wish Ajiya well and are also bent on causing disaffection between him (Ajiyan Sokoto) and the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu.
According to him” Such  insinuation was aimed at discrediting the traditional title holder who has no plan to contest any elective position let alone the Sokoto State governorship seat.”
He said, “As a patriotic citizen who had worked and held various positions in both the private and public service, and retired peacefully, Ajiyan Sokoto has no plan to contest any elective position.”
He therefore emphasized that
” Ajiya would continue to support the present administration under the able leadership of President Bola Tinubu in his determined effort to uplift the country to an enviable position.”
He, therefore, called on the people of Sokoto State in particular and Nigeria at large, to disregard such rumours, warning that Ajiya would not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or groups trying to cause disaffection and enmity between him and the Sokoto State Governor or the Federal Government.
“We called on members of the general public especially in Sokoto state to disregard the mischief of those people peddling the rumors which are aimed at creating confusion in the state and the country,” Danmalam added.
