718 repentant thugs profiled by police in Kano

— Governmen also promise them wife during mass wedding

The Kano state Assistant Commissioner of Police (SID), Abdulkarim Abdullah,has said that a total  718 repentant youths after they agreed to lay down their arms and renounce violence in all its ramifications and have so far been profiled by the Kano State police command.
He made this known at the ‘Safe Corridor’ programme organised for the repentant thugs held at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano

He also added that an additional 597 others have willingly submitted themselves to the Command, having agreed to lay down their arms and renounce violence in all its ramifications.

“This courageous decision by the concerned youths is not only commendable but strengthens our collective belief that with the right environment and sincere engagement, positive transformation is absolutely achievable.he said

“This milestone underscores the effectiveness of our approach and clearly demonstrates that sustained engagement, community-oriented policing, and inclusive governance remain the most viable instruments for building lasting peace.

He appealed to the Kano State Government and all relevant stakeholders to invest more in youth empowerment programmes and other long-term socio-economic interventions to ensure that the gains recorded so far are consolidated.

According to him,” For too long the scourge of youth thuggery has cast a devastating shadow over our communities — eroding peace, dampening economic activities, and projecting a negative image of our dear state”.

“Kano, as the commercial nerve-centre of Northern Nigeria, has regrettably borne the brunt of this menace, with several valuable lives and properties destroyed in the wake of violent confrontations perpetrated by misguided elements who were once lured into criminality,’ he said.

Speaking at the occasion  the state commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori urged community leaders, religious leaders, and stakeholders to intensify their efforts in sensitizing the youth on the dangers of violence, crime, and other anti-social behaviors.

“Every individual, every family, and every community has a role to play in ensuring peace and stability in our Society.

“The Kano State Government, through this ‘Safe Corridor’ program, is offering you a second chance to start afresh and become productive members of society. Take this opportunity seriously. Let today mark the beginning of a new chapter in your lives,” the CP added.

While  the commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya said the initiative is clear indication that the State government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is committed to promote peace, safer and more harmonious Kano State.

According to him” the government is also ready to support the repentant thugs with various empowerment programs to enable them become self-reliant and contribute to the economic growth and development in the state.”

Aside from that the state government also  promised to include those interested in the mass wedding programme of the state.
