The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reinstate its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on the list of contestants for the 2027 general elections.

The legal action followed the omission of Gwarzo’s name from the list of governorship candidates released by INEC, despite the party’s claim that he had fulfilled all the requirements to participate in the election.

Dr Yusuf Kofarmata, an NDC chieftain in the Kwankwasiyya movement, disclosed the filing of the suit, expressing hope that the court would rule in favour of the party and its candidate.

Kofarmata urged party supporters to remain steadfast and continue their campaign activities and prayers while awaiting the court’s decision.

He expressed optimism that the judicial process would pave the way for Gwarzo to participate in the Kano State governorship race

The suit seeks to address the candidate’s exclusion from INEC’s list and secure his place in the contest ahead of the 2027 elections.

The court’s decision is expected to determine the next step in the party’s efforts to have Gwarzo recognised as its governorship candidate.
