Kano exco approves N310bn for housing, infrastructure, education, others

The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects and programmes worth N310.27 billion across key sectors as part of efforts to boost infrastructure, education, housing, and social development in the state.
The approvals were announced during a press briefing on the outcome of the council’s 38th, at the Government House in Kano. The meeting was presided over by the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Briefing journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Waiya ,said the council deliberated on several critical matters affecting governance and development before approving projects aimed at improving public services and socio-economic growth across the state.
According to him,”A major portion of the approvals went to the education sector to improve access to quality learning and strengthen public schools.”
Waiya said ” The council approved N238.02 million for the purchase of UTME forms for eligible candidates across the state. It also approved N179.6 million for the rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School, Hotoro South in Nassarawa Local Government Area.”
Additional approvals include N395.68 million for fencing and renovation works at Government Secondary School Badau and Government Girls Secondary School Badau in Bagwai LGA, as well as N264 million for the purchase of textbooks for distribution across the state’s 44 local government areas.he said
The council further approved N1.54 billion to settle feeding costs for boarding schools and N236.19 million for outstanding payments for eggs and chickens supplied to the schools.
He added that” Other approvals include N185.34 million for the construction of a nomadic school in Tasawa, Dambatta LGA, and N125.48 million for the renovation of Kofar Nassarawa Yanbata Junior Secondary School and Kofar Nassarawa Primary School.
Infrastructure and Works
Under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the council approved several road and public facility projects.”
The Commissioner noted that these include N241.3 million for renovation and completion works at the Kano State Fire Service headquarters at Kofar Nassarawa and N119.95 million for the maintenance of Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungogo LGA.
Other approvals include N184.35 million for the construction of the Ladanai road network and N13.2 billion for the implementation of the 2026 constituency projects across the state.
The council also approved N2.91 billion for the reconstruction of Race Course Extension to Audu Bako Way and adjoining roads in Nassarawa LGA, as well as N1.67 billion for the rehabilitation of the road linking Gidan Malam Aminu Kano, Tal’udu, Gadonkaya, Yahaya Gusau and Sharada.
Rural Development and Water Resources
He stated that ” In the rural sector, the council approved N1.07 billion for the construction of feeder roads in Bichi, Dambatta, Garko and Takai local government areas, alongside N368.23 million for a road project linking Tumbau to Musku in Gezawa LGA”

It also approved N608.39 million for the settlement of electricity bills owed to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company for the state’s five major water treatment plants.
He then noted that in order to
strengthen healthcare services, the council approved N89.71 million for the procurement of four dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre and N165.64 million for dental equipment and materials for primary healthcare services.
While ” In the environment sector, N401.17 million was approved for the construction of reinforced concrete drainage at Kurna Asabe Filin Durumi in Dala LGA, while N210 million will be used to produce 10 million seedlings for the 2026 tree-planting campaign.”
He therefore noted that ” In the
housing and compensation,
” The largest single approval was N113.19 billion for the construction of a 480-unit mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan under the “Gida-Gida Mega City” project.”
The council also approved N1.7 billion for compensation to 724 households affected by the proposed 330KVA transmission line project being implemented by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Another N311.38 million was approved as compensation for properties affected by the Kano Line Road project in Kumbotso LGA.
He further added that in the
Social Programmes and Youth Empowerment,”The council approved N1.34 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme, while N171.25 million was approved for a youth empowerment programme on small feeds milling to boost livestock production and create employment opportunities”
It also approved N199.7 million for the training of youths on electronic registration for major examinations including WAEC, NECO, JAMB and NABTEB.
Policy Decisions
Among other policy decisions, the council approved the construction of AKK Industrial Parks, the repair of vehicles used under the Girl Child Initiative, and a mass vaccination programme for sheep and goats across the 44 local government areas.
The council also approved amendments to the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board Law, 2014, and endorsed the Kano State Electricity Bill 2026, directing that both be forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative action.
“In addition, the council approved the extension of water supply from the Challawa main pipeline to Zawaciki Gabas in Kumbotso LGA.
Other Developments
The council noted the resumption of operations of the Tiga power plant after several years of inactivity due to disrepair.
It also acknowledged the presentation of a service wireless charger and diary gift to the council chairman by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap.”
The commissioner said the approvals reflect the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, public services and the overall welfare of residents across Kano State.
