The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has explained that the relationship between Kano State and Maiduguri is an old one with ancient history.
Gov. Zulum stated this when he received the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at the Government House, accompanied by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi, during a sympathy visit by the Emir of Kano to Borno State.
The Governor commended the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, for the visit, adding that they will never forget it and that it will further strengthen the friendship between the two states.

He then acknowledged the loss of life and property suffered by the people of Borno State, describing it as a great loss beyond imagination. However, he said what happened to them was a blessing from God.
Responding ,the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, said he was in Maiduguri to condole with the people of Borno State, the state government, and the Shehu of Borno over the tragedy of the floods.
Alhaji  Bayero, on behalf of the people of Kano State, expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to those affected by the tragedy. He prayed to God to bless those who lost their lives and properties.
The Emir of Kano thanked the people of Borno State for the warm reception, saying it was not surprising due to the friendly relationship between the people of Kano State and Maiduguri.
Earlier, in his speech when he received the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in his palace, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi, thanked him for the visit to Maiduguri to console them over the flood disaster.
The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai El Kanemi, prayed for the continued development of their friendship, peace, and prosperity in their states and the country at large.
